About Sarah

Sarah is a public servant, Air Force veteran, and the proud mother to two Arundel Middle School students, Tommy and Robin. As the daughter of two Air Force retirees, and as the wife of a former Marine, she has a clear perspective on the challenges military families face when transitioning to new duty stations and school districts.

Sarah shipped out to Air Force Basic Training four days after graduating high school. She trained to become a Signals Intelligence Analyst and was stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. Years later, she moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to join her husband and start their family. A year later, they would be stationed at Fort Meade in Maryland.

She was born in Austin, Texas, and was fortunate to move throughout the United States as a child. This allowed her to be immersed in cultures different from her own- something she is especially thankful for as an adult. She graduated from San Pedro High School in San Pedro, California in 2007.

Sarah proudly worked as a substitute teacher for AACPS schools- specifically Manor View Elementary and MacArthur Middle Schools. During this time, she began to notice the dire need to support educators, students, and their families.

She currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner for Occupational and Professional Licensing at the Maryland Department of Labor. Overseeing over 25 boards and commissions, the division is responsible for licensing and regulating Maryland’s workforce. Previously, she served as Director of Communications for the Maryland Department of Budget and Management.

Sarah received her Associate’s Degree from Anne Arundel Community College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives in Odenton with her husband, children, dogs, cats, gerbil, and bearded dragon.
